PIX Photography Contest 2016
Press Release
The PIX Photography Contest is proud to announce it’s 5th year at the Central Québec School Board! PIX is an amazing opportunity for students and staff to show off their photography skills and the slices of life they celebrate. Every year winners have their photos framed and toured in a travelling exhibition. The Exhibition opens at Fall Fest and then visits CQSB schools as far as Chibougamau and Thetford Mines. There are now five categories (portrait, landscape, action, experimental, and pets) and five age categories (K-Gr 3, Gr 4-6, Sec 1-2, Sec 3-5, and staff).
All past winners can be viewed on our website: www.cqsbperformingartsfestival.com. The overall winner receives a $150 Amazon gift card and his/her photo will be framed and displayed at the School Board office. The overall winner category is for students only, although staff photographers are welcome to compete in all other categories.
Due to the high quality of the winning photos and a demand by various art appreciators, student photos will also be offered up for sale, with the proceeds going directly to our young artists. Photography is a powerful form of self-expression, but it is also a professional occupation for many artists. Interested buyers will be able to contact PIX and buy 12X16 high quality prints for $30. Students will receive 50% of the initial fee. The rest will cover printing and shipping.
Interested students and staff photographers can simply send their best photos to aurian.haller@cqsb.qc.ca. It is important that the photo resolution be as high as possible (eg. the file size should be at least 2 MB). Please include the following: name, category, grade, and school (one photo per category for a total of five per photographer).
Teachers interested in engaging their students with photography have a number of resources from which to choose. Below you will find a link to a CQSB photography LES and a list of books you can order from the Teacher Resource Centre. There are also a host of online resources. Shelley Longney, the CQSB Information Technologies Consultant and avid photographer, is available to teach workshops on the basics of photography in your classes. There are also photographers on the Culture in the Schools list of artists that you can invite to your school. Links for their pages are below.
